Two hands reaching to help each other, symbolizing service and cooperation in daily life

One Love – Service

Eighty percent of the people in the world are service providers. Their job, purpose, or calling is to help others. What does that tell you? If you want to get through life, you need people who are willing to help.

We were discussing this the other day and realized how many people in our lives provide valuable services to my wife and me. We have a gardener, a house cleaner who comes several times a month, a computer professional we rely on almost every week, and a whole host of other service providers. We honestly don’t know how we could have navigated life without their help.

Service as a Core Principle of One Love

In the Star of Light and One Love philosophy, service is one of the key principles. We derive this idea from the way our own cells work together to support and sustain us. I have always believed that a kind person who serves others is deeply spiritual. Nurses, doctors, caregivers, and countless others use their energy to assist the energy of another person. They perform tasks that contribute to the well-being and betterment of others.

Service can be defined as the act of doing work for the benefit of another. When you think about it, what could be more important? Personal pleasure? A purely hedonistic lifestyle? A mother cares for a helpless baby, and later in life children often care for aging parents when they become vulnerable. In many ways, it is a cycle of giving back for the gift of life itself.

Why Service Is the Practical Application of Spirituality

There are people who manufacture products and create tangible things. They may be highly skilled, technical, and focused. Yet I often find that service-oriented people make the best friends. Many possess compassion, empathy, and a genuine concern for the needs of others. If you think about it, service is the practical application of spirituality. It is doing something useful for someone who either cannot do it themselves or would benefit from another person’s assistance.

I am not even addressing the fact that serving others often benefits the person providing the service as well. That is a conversation for another day.

God as Energy and the Meaning of Service

When you view God as energy rather than through the lens of traditional religion, you can better understand why service is so important. We cannot exist without helping one another and sharing common values such as love and peace. This is the essence of One Love.

From my perspective, many people become distracted by religious stories and doctrines instead of focusing on what truly matters. We are individuals who were created to serve, learn, and grow. Our souls incarnate to experience life, understand the world, and assist other souls along the journey.

If we look at what souls do as an example, we gain insight into how we should live. We can study our biology and the incredible creations of the God of Energy and advanced souls and recognize a simple truth: we are meant to help one another.

Cooperation Over Conflict

It amazes me that so much of the world has overlooked this lesson. We should be cooperating rather than fighting wars. We should be helping rather than acting from ego. Too often, people spend much of their lives focused on themselves, only to realize near the end that helping others is the true essence of our existence. Through service, we move closer to God.

Public policy should encourage cooperation rather than separation, forgiveness rather than finger-pointing, and independent thinking rather than blind acceptance. Many of the challenges we face today, illness, stress, pollution, conflict, and social division—are symptoms of a society that has lost sight of service and cooperation.

This does not mean we will not make mistakes. We all do. True service means working together to correct problems and improve situations. It means finding solutions rather than assigning blame.

The Path Forward Is Service

Friends are far better than enemies. Much of humanity’s evolution has been a lesson in learning this truth. Recently, it seems that society has been slipping backward due to misinformation, division, and fear. Yet there are still many people who carry the light and understand what this world is truly about.

The path forward is simple: love, peace, cooperation, and service to one another. That is the heart of One Love.
