The Merging of the Heart in a 35-Year Marriage
I have been with my partner and wife for over 35 years. I just looked at a prior birthday card which had a heading: The Merging of the Heart. I received it a few years ago and it hit an emotional chord inside of me. We are very much in love and at this stage in our 70s we pretty much know a lot about the other person and when we emotionally talk on a subject, we find that we see eye to eye. From a spiritual perspective, it is heart to heart. There are not many topics that we don’t feel similar on and it is a warm complete feeling to know that there is one person that really matters to you.
What Love Feels Like After Decades Together
It is hard to define love in this situation, except that you do things for another without thinking about it because it seems normal. You just wish more people had this feeling, I find that it opens the door to peace and helps you focuses on what really matters. Here we have someone who is counting on you and you are counting on them. It is a different kind of love than that of a children or grandchildren because you see each other everyday and you have to decide on what you want to do that day. Whereas the kids are on their own and no longer count on you!
Love for a Partner Versus Love for Grown Children
Though we are close to our offspring, they are on their own, it is just a different feeling. For kids, it is one of complete and happiness that they have the skills to enjoy life. There is love, but they are doing their own thing. You are no longer a key part in it. They have their own jobs, income and partners to do their own things, they don’t really need you around, though it is fun to be with them. So that gets us to the essence of One Love, which is love and peace. When you do things for others opens the door to peace. Yes you can believe in Jesus and say Jesus is the answer, but he preached love and peace and not every sees Jesus on a regular basis.
Watching the Sunrise and Remembering What Matters
This morning, I am watching the sun come up and it colors that the sky as there are a lot of clouds today.. It is beautiful and makes you think of what really matters in this world. Appreciating life is one of them and realizing that we have only a short time here before we move on into another dimension. Why not have love and peace in your life and see the world as it really could be?
Why Love and Peace Are So Hard to Find
So the question that comes up is why the world is such a difficult place to find people practicing love and peace? It is because we are so ego centered and think that we often act as if we are against each other. Yes there often is one winner who takes all as in sports but the whole concept of competition could be replaced by cooperation and sharing what there is. There is no value more positive than love and peace and it very nourishing. You are in harmony with each other and nature.
Love and Peace as the End Product of Life
Think about that for a while. It makes sense, but our politicians don’t seem to be representing us. They seem to be in it for themselves and many of their promises should be for a better life for us, but they seem to have their priorities wrong. They are out for themselves using money, power and controls. Our history tells the story. To have a person or belief system that embellishes love and peace, in whatever form, seems to me to be the end product of life. I hope that we all get there!
