I have over 2,000 active clients in my firm. Many of them are starting to have health problems and often one or two die each week. It is a tremendous burden to the surviving spouse and many of them come in and discuss what to do next. For many spouses where they are a surviving spouse, often this person did not handle their money and they are concerned with what to do. I tell them what to do at death and to access without the legal process to their money. Often I tell them how to invest and how much they actually have to invest. I did that today. They were married 25 years and he is in intensive care.
How Grief Awakens Spirituality
I often get into a discussion of their soul and what if they in this case their soul leave their body. Much to my surprise, most of them are starting to believe in another dimension and they talk about what to expect. In addition, they are starting to take better care of their bodies. This better care, which includes supplements, exercises and mental drama contact groups is the basis for spirituality. It is looking after your energy and health more than anything else in your life. After you get old that is what most people want.
Prayer, Grief and Spirituality Later in Life
It is sad to see people wait until their 70s and 80s before they actively get involved in spirituality. For some it is as simple as praying and hopefully to Jesus or some other saint. Many also pray to God and ask for assistance. It takes often 6 months to realize that they are living in a new space. For those that have their deceased spouse still hanging around them, they often experience good things happening to them. I find that most grieve and then ultimately decide that it is time to more on.
Starting Over After Losing a Spouse
Many will find a new relationship often from a friend or acquaintance that they have had known and now for what ever reason, it gets more series. Often because moments like this need compassion and a good friend is already there. The surviving spouse often talk to me about how they are going to live, which is a big problem in Southern Marin as it is very expensing. For those that have a house, they often sell it and move to a cheaper place. Many have moved to Mexico where the dollar goes a long way. Other move in with their kids and stay there until they die.
Why Old Age and Grief Lead to Spirituality
I think old age and grief are driving forces for spirituality. You can’t help but want to feel better as life takes its toll on your body and emotions. Many things in the past have slipped away and it is often an emptiness that settles in. I suggest that they go out and socialize to the extent that you can and hopefully have a bucket list. Especially for those that are nearing death, I tell them to live as they have seldom done before.
Faith, Support and How You Use Your Energy
Spirituality or the study of how you use you energy, is often a function of how much money you have and what problems you face. Believing in God or an organized church is wonderful as they can be support groups. Knowing about our history, the Anunnaki and why we were created is interesting but their interest often fades away as they have other pressing problems.
Keeping a Positive Attitude
But having a positive attitude goes a long way and just try to keep up with what contacts you have really helps.
