This is a far-fetched blog. It is not about religion, God, or objective truth. It is about doing something you enjoy, something done with passion. Something where you can bring your skills together with your heart and with things that have meaning. That, by the way, is the essence of spirituality.
What It Means to Feel Alive
I know I feel my best when I do something I love. I become filled with passion and creativity. I also recognize that I will never be here again, so it is important to move forward and explore the unknown, doing what you truly enjoy. You need to spend your time the way you want to. The question is: what has meaning for you?
Purpose Is the Root of Passion
Meaning is often derived from what you believe in and your sense of purpose. In other words, you need goals and values for passion to exist. After spending 30 years writing about spirituality in poems and prayers, I decided to bring it together in song.
I play the guitar, and recently I put one of my poems into a song and sang it for my partner.
A Creative Path, Found Later in Life
I admit I am a latecomer to this creative path, but I have always wanted to sing and perform. I have served people all my life, and in a way that is also a form of performance, but not through music. In my books and on my website, I write proverbs, poems, and prayers. I thought: why not bring them together into a single form, song? It feels like a full circle of everything I have done.
I tried it recently, and to my surprise, it came out very well. The key was to take the music from a song I have loved and played for years, and then merge it with words inspired by places and things I enjoy, such as the beach, sand, love, and women. So I turned it into a song.
I was surprised that the rhythm of the music naturally shaped the phrasing of my words. I suppose it can be done the other way around, but I found it fun to start with the music and then fill in the words.
This Is Spirituality at Its Finest
This, to me, is spirituality at its finest, applying your energy to create happiness. It may not be spiritual in the traditional sense, but if it brings you joy, it is spiritual. Especially if it reflects places you love, such as the beach, sun, sand, and water.
Life Needs Purpose Beyond Routine
The reason I bring this up is that life requires purpose. You may work for many years and then retire, and suddenly wonder what comes next. You can relax, play golf, or pursue hobbies, but it helps greatly to find something that brings together your passion and the experience you have gained throughout your life. Otherwise, you may spend decades doing things that suddenly end without purpose beyond retirement.
It Is Never Too Late to Begin
It may sound unusual to begin singing and performing later in life, especially if you have never done it before. But if you know music and songs well, it becomes a way to express yourself. Now I need to record a few pieces and put them on my website.
That, to me, is a project worth doing, because anyone can change their life if they choose to.
