As you get older, this becomes the question we all ask: What is the meaning of life? After seven decades, numerous businesses, and many adventures, I have come to a conclusion, life has no intrinsic meaning. You create it yourself. What you choose to do is your life. This is profound.
Religion and Constructed Meaning
If you are religious, you can find countless values and stories to guide you. But the difficulty is that much of religion was constructed. There was no Jewish exodus from Egypt. The story of Jesus was shaped centuries after his death. Muhammad did not live in Mecca. So, are you going to spend your life believing what others—primarily the Anunnaki, our ancient creators, told? Perhaps. You would, in a way, be honoring your original parents who created humanity with short lives and the purpose of mining gold. Today, three-quarters of the world follows some form of religion.
Life as Work and Systems
But what if life is simply business? Many people spend their whole lives working within systems—money, commerce, institutions, all created by someone else. That can be a purpose. Society runs on this structure. You choose a profession, climb the ladder, and master your craft. Or perhaps the meaning of life is helping others. Many wealthy people give to charity, hoping to make a difference with what they have gained. This, too, can give life meaning.
The Inward Journey
And then there is the inward journey, the path of discovering the God of energy within yourself. This shifts the focus from helping others first to understanding yourself first. In truth, there are only two fundamental choices: to help yourself or to help others. They can be merged, of course, but the inward search begins with you. Through meditation, breathing, ritual, and other practices, you explore the inner universe. This is the essence of the Star of Light. Its 64 Love and Peace Scriptures offer themes that guide you toward discovering your true self.
Creating Meaning Through Awareness
What I have found is that these themes present the core concepts you need to live a life that begins with self-understanding. It is an objective, biological set of topics that help you uncover who you are. But when it comes to meaning, you must create your own. Biologically, helping others through service brings meaning because you take in the other person’s energy, and that exchange can make you feel happy and fulfilled.
Energy, Cooperation, and Purpose
Your cells collaborate to produce health, and even this cooperation offers a hint of meaning. I have friends who travel the world seeking experiences. If they gain something more than pleasure, that is wonderful. But the question still remains: What is the true meaning of life? Is it simply to perpetuate ourselves? Or is it to understand that we are beings of energy created by the God of Energy, here to explore what energy does, without needing a grand meaning at all?
An Open Question
I would love to hear your thoughts, arguments, and perspectives as you grow more conscious of life with each passing year.
