We all have them, yet many of us don’t fully use or understand them, our emotions. They are mental and physical responses shaped by the brain and are connected to changes in our thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Even today, therapists and researchers continue to explore and explain them.
Emotions as Energy in the Star of Light Philosophy
In the Star of Light’s One Love philosophy, emotions are seen as energy fields within and around the body. They are influenced by our experiences. For example, someone who has experienced trauma may carry emotional energy such as fear, distrust, or pain. While these experiences can have lasting effects, they can also be worked through over time, often with support.
We simplify this idea by saying that emotions arise from our beliefs and experiences. While they are connected to our senses, they are largely shaped by how we interpret what we experience. Emotions help prepare us for life without requiring constant conscious thought. They guide our responses, influence our behavior, and contribute to the development of our personality.
Choosing How We Express Our Emotions
We may not always control what happens to us, but we can choose how we express and process those experiences. When we express our emotions honestly, we often move beyond the boundaries of language, religion, and culture, connecting more deeply with others.
Positive and Negative Emotional States
Emotions are often described as positive, such as happiness, love, and compassion, or negative, such as fear, anger, and sadness. Within our philosophy, two of the most important emotional states are love and peace.
Love as the Fundamental Energy
Love can be understood as a deep feeling for someone or something that exists beyond personal gain. While love can bring benefits, it often arises naturally, like the bond between a parent and child. It is not something that needs to be earned or controlled; it simply exists and can be expressed.
We see love as the fundamental energy present throughout the universe. It is not limited or conditional, it is expansive and available to all. This is one of the core reasons our philosophy centers on love. Love is not about control, nor is it rooted in fear. Instead, it is something we experience by simply being present and open to it. Feeling love is one of the most meaningful experiences we can have.
The Importance of Peace of Mind
Another essential state is peace, especially peace of mind. Peace comes when we feel balanced and aligned with ourselves and with nature. While there may be more intense or heightened emotional experiences, peace is a steady and grounding state that allows us to live with clarity and ease.
Living Through Your Emotions
We encourage you to reflect on your own emotions and how they influence your life. Do you express your feelings to your family and friends? Doing so can create deeper connections and stronger bonds. Simply telling someone how you feel, especially something as powerful as “I love you”, can have a meaningful impact. It may even inspire you to act in ways you normally wouldn’t.
For example, I feel a deep love for the Earth. At times, I find myself picking up litter that others have left behind. To me, this reflects a difference in awareness or emotional connection. Actions often mirror beliefs, and when care or respect is lacking, it shows in how we treat our environment. Even something as small as discarded cigarette butts can reflect a disconnect from a sense of shared responsibility.
Emotions are powerful. When we become more aware of them, express them honestly, and align them with care and understanding, they can enrich our lives and deepen our connection to the world around us.
