Candlelit altar with crystals and bowls set for a full moon ritual ceremony

Spirit — New House Full Moon Ritual

Yesterday was a full moon, and we held our first full moon ritual in five years at our new home. Life had been so busy that we had not gathered in this way for a long time. We wanted to honor the moon and the planetary alignments occurring at the same time, including eclipses. So we invited friends and created a small altar.

Setting the Sacred Space

In the center of the room, we placed a table with three chakra bowls: a platinum bowl, a citrine bowl, and a diamond bowl. We saged each person, front and back, and opened the window when the room became stuffy. Before the gathering, we asked each guest to bring a poem that reflected releasing something from the past and welcoming something new on the horizon.

Honoring the Four Directions

We began by honoring the four directions. Each of us lit a candle and spoke about its meaning. Then we honored Father Sky and Mother Earth with larger candles.

For the East, we reflected on the rising sun and the warmth of a new day. For the South, we spoke of warmth and life, and how all beings depend on it. For the West, we honored the setting sun and a time for reflection. For the North, we acknowledged the cold, a time to rest, restore, and prepare for rebirth.

Poems, Transformation, and Moonlight

With the circle open, each person read their poem. Mine spoke about change and the uncertainty of what lies ahead. It was deeply moving. Others shared reflections on transformation and our connection to Mother Earth.

Afterward, I invited the moon’s light into each chakra, explaining what each energy center represents and what it means to receive new light. I began with light entering the crown, then spoke of awareness in the third eye and truth in the throat. From there, I moved to the heart and then downward through empowerment, creativity, and grounding to the earth. The intention was to help everyone experience how new light moves through the body.

The Sound Meditation

We then began playing the bowls. First was the platinum bowl, representing the feminine and the moon. Next came the citrine bowl, with its deep tone to ground the group. We concluded with the high-pitched diamond bowl. The sound meditation lasted about fifteen minutes, with everyone sitting quietly and eyes closed. It was deeply peaceful; many of us felt completely relaxed and present.

Closing the Circle

Afterward, each person shared what the experience meant to them. For most, it was their first moon ritual. We then enjoyed dark chocolate and fruit together.

The Power of Ritual

The deeper purpose of honoring something meaningful, whether alone or with others, is that it anchors the experience in your life. Ritual gives significance to transformation. By practicing something like this each month, you can cultivate a stronger connection with one of the most powerful celestial influences on Earth.

We hope you feel inspired to create meaningful rituals in your own life. Soon, we will offer a free ritual guide on our website to help others develop their own practices.
