I watched a YouTube video last week suggesting that Jesus preached consciousness rather than organized religion. That idea stayed with me for quite a while because it raised many overlapping questions.
What Jesus Actually Taught
Jesus was a Jew who taught the principles of the Torah. Later, the Council of Nicaea attributed many divine qualities to him that helped shape Christianity as we know it today. But what did Jesus actually teach apart from later church doctrine?
He taught, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” He said that “the Kingdom of God is within you” and that serving others is a worthy pursuit. He taught that “with God, all things are possible.” Throughout his teachings, love and peace were recurring themes.
The Human Map of Consciousness
Centuries later, David Hawkins developed what he called the Human Map of Consciousness. Using body kinesiology, he organized different levels of human consciousness into a simple framework. On his map, the qualities that support life include willingness, acceptance, reason, love, joy, peace, and enlightenment. He also described many related qualities, such as cooperation, forgiveness, and understanding.
Where Two Philosophies Meet
When you compare these two philosophies, you can see many similarities. Jesus demonstrated what could be described as a very high level of consciousness long before the Church emphasized his divine nature. Likewise, the Star of Light is centered on love, peace, and the higher qualities of human consciousness. That is the foundation of what we are trying to share.
Many readers have told me that Jesus is the answer. A question I often ask is, where did his wisdom come from? One possibility is that it developed during the “missing years” of his life, when some believe he traveled to the East and studied with the philosophers and spiritual teachers of that time.
It is difficult to criticize a philosophy that promotes a higher level of consciousness. For those who follow Jesus, his teachings offer a meaningful path toward living with greater love and compassion. If everything is energy, then the more our energy supports life, the closer we move toward enlightenment.
Testing Energy Through Kinesiology
For many years, I kept David Hawkins’ Map of Consciousness next to my computer. I explored many of its principles through body kinesiology, a form of muscle testing that is believed to help a person access the body’s responses to different forms of energy and consciousness.
Times have changed since the days of Jesus. Every person has the potential to experience the divine within. If we think of God as the source of all energy, and spirituality as learning to use that energy for health, happiness, and well-being, then we begin to understand what life is truly about. From this perspective, the healings attributed to Jesus can be viewed as expressions of a very high level of consciousness, or, if you prefer, a very high level of spiritual energy.
The Cosmic Dimension of the Star of Light
In my last blog, I discussed the Harmonic Convergence of April 17, 1987, and how the Star of Light took on a more cosmic dimension. It suggests that the energy of nature continually offers us opportunities to live according to principles of love, peace, and higher consciousness, the same qualities reflected in both the teachings of Jesus and the philosophy of the Star of Light.
Perhaps the time has come to focus less on stories and more on putting these principles into practice.
Learning From the Growth of a Child
This reminds me of a child growing up. Through experience, study, and trial and error, the child gradually learns that the condition of the body and the quality of its energy play an important role in health, happiness, and success. The more energy available to support life, the better the child feels and often the more fully they develop.
Discovering Your Own Inner Wisdom
If people learned techniques such as body kinesiology, they might gain greater confidence in discovering what is beneficial for themselves rather than relying entirely on the teachings of Jesus, David Hawkins, or anyone else. In my view, encouraging people to become more aware of their own inner wisdom would help create a more peaceful and compassionate world.
