I received a lot of feedback on my Happiness blog, so I thought I would follow it up with Happiness 2. At the center of happiness is the ability to let go. Things are what they are, and it’s important to avoid self-judgment. This is similar to surrendering to God’s will; whatever happens, happens.
The Art of Letting Go
You can still do your best by using V-MAP: first create a vision, then a mission or blueprint of what you want, and take action in hopes of a positive outcome. However, you shouldn’t become attached to the result, especially when it is beyond your control. Remember that you deserve forgiveness when you are doing your best. Being a perfectionist is too demanding and often unnecessary. Life is much simpler when lived naturally, and simplicity brings happiness.
Forgiveness and Positive Action
We often judge people or events, but judgment does not lead to happiness. When expectations are removed, disappointment and stress are reduced. Don’t get angry—most things are not your fault. As long as you tried, that is all that truly matters. This brings us to a key word: forgiveness. Most of the time, it’s best to keep negative opinions quiet and avoid criticizing others. If you don’t like something, silence is often the wisest choice.
Fulfillment and Well-being
What helps me feel good is doing things I enjoy, like reading a book, enjoying a hobby, or going for a swim. Another source of happiness is making others happy by helping them. Even a small gesture, a smile, or a moment of gratitude is enough. Happiness also comes from feeling good physically—eating right, sleeping well, and maintaining balance. I find laughter to be great medicine.
The Power of Prayer and Connection
Speaking about emotions instead of keeping them inside brings relief. Prayer is another powerful tool; asking God for help raises my level of happiness because I can give God the problem and no longer carry it myself. We have started weekly prayers on the Star of Light website to assist others. Additionally, breathing and meditation help connect you to your body’s energy, improving your mood. That, in itself, is a form of happiness.
