Revisiting Deuterium and Water Quality
In Part 1: Spirituality and Water, we discussed how vital water is to the human body and how most drinking water contains about 150 parts per million (PPM) of heavy water, also known as deuterium. Generally speaking, the lower the deuterium level, the better many people report feeling.
Lowering Deuterium Intake
I mentioned that I lowered my deuterium intake to about 110 PPM and felt noticeably better. People who live near glaciers and drink glacier water often consume water with lower deuterium levels, and on average, these populations tend to live longer. You can purchase deuterium-depleted water, which can range from under 150 PPM down to as low as 10 PPM. However, it is very expensive, often around $20 per bottle, and personally, I didn’t feel that much better after drinking it.
A Practical Water Solution
So instead, we chose a more practical approach: installing a reverse osmosis water filter and adding select biochemical minerals back into the water to improve taste. The result is great-tasting water at minimal cost.
Exploring Hydrogen Water
Today, I want to comment on hydrogen water, water infused with hydrogen gas. It is often claimed to have benefits such as antioxidant properties, mood support, and improved exercise recovery. Hydrogen water can be made using tablets, or by dropping a magnesium tablet into a glass of water. When the tablet dissolves, it releases hydrogen gas, which lasts about 30 minutes before dissipating.
Personal Experience With Hydrogen Tablets
We have tried several brands. When added to cold water, there is little noticeable taste. I sometimes add it to tea. It is also said to support kidney health, though personally, I haven’t noticed any strong or obvious effects. The two types we use are H2TAB and H2Elite. We receive no compensation for mentioning these brands; the main point is that water is a primary source of healthy energy.
Tap Water and Additional Practices
Municipal tap water is often treated with various chemicals, and many people prefer to avoid long-term reliance on it. We also spin our water in a Mayu container for seven minutes to improve absorption. I don’t notice much difference, but it doesn’t seem harmful either.
The Hidden Problem of Sugar
One real issue with modern hydration is sugar. Many drinks marketed as refreshing contain high levels of sugar, which is not good for the body. Our favorite way to consume water is either plain or in tea.
Choosing Clean Water and Containers
Considering that the human body is mostly water, the cleaner the water you drink, the better off you may be. Using glass bottles, such as those from Iceland Water or Italian Panna Water, also avoids potential concerns related to plastics and chemical leaching during transport.
Water as an Experience
It may sound strange, but to us, water is like wine to a connoisseur. You can taste the differences, pH, mineral content, and dissolved elements all affect flavor. Spring water varies widely in taste, and in our experience, most heavily processed reverse-osmosis water tastes “flat” or “dead” unless minerals are reintroduced.
Why Water Truly Matters
What we want to emphasize is this: the more you learn about water and make thoughtful choices, the better off you may be. Water is life. Some regions of the Middle East are running out of fresh water, while other places rely on desalination from the sea. Either way, water is essential, and people who live in dry areas understand this better than anyone.
