Understanding the Journey of Consciousness
Yesterday was a perfect day to explore the Journey of Consciousness. This journey usually involves evaluating a situation objectively while applying positive human emotions such as compassion, understanding, forgiveness, and reason — all with the goal of creating love and peace. You can also enhance this process by drawing on positive chakra energies, as described in Book 1: One Love.
A Distressed Visitor in Need of Help
The situation unfolded while I was on the phone with a client in California. I was in Kauai, and around three o’clock I suddenly heard a scream. I looked around and saw an upset woman from Poland, distressed by a loud rushing-water sound outside her window. She was wearing only the bottom of a small bathing suit, clearly shaken and desperate for help — and somehow she found me. I paused the call with my client, assuming this would take just a minute. Instead, it took nearly an hour.
Assessing the Situation with Compassion
She showed me the problem: one of the property’s gardeners had broken a valve, and water was gushing out uncontrollably. After taking in the situation, I decided to help. I felt compassion for this frightened, half-dressed woman, and I didn’t want to see anyone so distressed in the middle of such a peaceful garden setting. I focused first on calming her down, understanding her fear, and helping her forgive whoever caused the damage so we could get to the facts.
Attempting to Fix the Problem
I tried shutting off the water myself, but nothing changed. We contacted the property manager and then the fire department. Eventually I found something I could turn, and the sound that had been tormenting her diminished to a tolerable level. She immediately began thanking me. By then, several people had arrived — half a dozen or so — all trying to help.
An Unexpected Ending
I had been dressed for dinner but ended up completely soaked. Then it began to rain — typical for Kauai — adding to the surreal scene. She was relieved and smiling, though everyone else looked confused. And even now, the next morning, the water is still spraying out.
What the Journey of Consciousness Really Means
The Journey of Consciousness means being aware of what’s happening and using a blend of emotion and reason to resolve a problem. Most of the time we apply it to childhood wounds or to helping those less fortunate. But this time, the moment needed compassion for someone overwhelmed by noise and water.
Love and Peace in Action
Love is the instinct to help others simply because it feels right. Peace is finding harmony with nature — in this case, trying to stop the flow of water rather than “go with the flow.” To act in this way, you need love for people and the sense that you are safe enough to be of service.
A Journey That Moves Outward
The Journey of Consciousness is not only about going inward, finding God through meditation and breathing. It is also about stepping outward — helping others in moments of need with heartfelt emotion. And from there, it can extend into helping the earth itself, protecting it from harm, and teaching others that peace is truly possible.
